Broken Leg :(

First of all: This is for you, Aunt Bonnie! (You know what that means)

Back in March, Dustin and Porter were playing and I cut my finger open so Dustin was hurrying to get me a band-aid and set Porter down. Well, my stubborn little Porter didn't WANT to be put down, so he twisted himself RIGHT out of Dustin's arms. He only fell about 8" but landed funny. He instantly started BAWLING- but stopped within maybe 2 minutes. We put him down but he wouldn't put any pressure on his leg at all.

I called my brother-in-law who works as a Bone Trauma P.A. up at McKay Dee Hospital. He said wait a couple hours and if he still wasn't putting pressure on it, to take him to the InstaCare. We laid him down for a nap, he slept for 3 hours. When we got him up, he still would not put ANY pressure on his stroller. But he was COMPLETELY happy! But, we followed Aaron's advice and took him in.

When we were walking in I told Dustin, "The doctor is probably just going to laugh at us and walk away- he is completely happy and acting great!" but we both knew we would rather be safe than sorry. Well- after the X-ray the doctor talked to the radiologist and it was decided that Porter had broken both bones in his legs. :(
This is the AWESOME X-ray- check out all that fat!!!! They weren't clean breaks, they were some random kind of fractures. One ran vertically up one bone, and the other fractured enough to bend the bone.

Porter was definitely the most popular patient! When they were splinting his leg, he had 4 nurses in there just watching him. They couldn't believe how calm and good he was... and neither could we! That kid NEVER holds still- it was a miracle!

After we got done at the doctors, we ran to Target to pick up some more Motrin and Tylenol since I did NOT want to run out! And when we were there Porter found this "Boot-ball" and fell in love. Of course, Dustin is a sucker and grabbed it for him. We figured with two broken bones he definitely deserved a new "boot-ball."

My cute boy all splinted up and ready to go! Because of the kind of his breaks, we decided to take him up to my brother-in-law since all they do is specialize in bone trauma. They didn't want to cast him for at least 4 days so that he wouldn't get "Compartment Syndrome" so he chilled out in a splint for a few days. The doctors said he would get super frustrated because he wouldn't be able to crawl.... well... clearly they don't know my son!

He was crawling within 5 minutes of being home. He had just learned how to walk- so he was bugged he couldn't get up and walk- but whatever! He got over it :)
Aaron and his M.A. casting Porter's leg. He literally just laid there and looked at Uncle Aaron the ENTIRE time! I was so grateful Aaron was the person who casted his leg.... I was SUPER nervous that he would be a turd when they were trying to cast him. But I think he just thought Uncle Aaron was playing with him!

We were told he wouldn't be able to walk or crawl AT ALL because of the angles they casted it at. He was crawling as soon as we got home, and about an hour later was walking along the couch on it.
Porter on the way home from Ogden- he wasn't sure what to think of the HUGE bright green thing on his leg.
we found a "cast cover" to cover the cast while he bathed... but they only had adult ones... to it was HUGE!
After two weeks, Porter was able to get a "half-cast" put on. We were told he wouldn't be able to walk on it again... yep- he proved them wrong. We was walking on it within an hour of being home.

Porter was so used to the heaviness of his full-leg cast that when he would crawl he would throw his whole leg out in front of him. It was SO funny!
