Christmas in Korea Part 10

.......REAL Christmas Eve Dinner.......

While we were in Korea, my parents had a few things come up that were very unexpected and took them away for a while. So on Christmas Eve my mom and I were having a hard time feeling like it was Christmas Eve. We were so rushed with everything that we decided to just postpone Christmas by a day :). So we had dinner on Christmas (which we deemed to be our Christmas Eve) with a bunch of Mom & Dad's missionaries.

We had, Elder Randolph, Elder Kim, Elder Innis, Elder Rhee Sok, Sister Rhee, Sister Rhee, Sister Brady, and Sister Graham over for dinner. Sister Rhee (the first one)'s dad passed away very unexpectedly on Dec 23, and my parents were able to take her up to Taejeon to meet up with her two siblings who are serving there, and then take them home to Seoul to their Mom. It was a heartbreaking experience for my parents, and when she came back (with her friend Sister Rhee who is from their home ward and a former missionary of my dad's haha-it's confusing), my parents invited her to stay at the Mission Home for a couple of days. During that time I came to love Sister Rhee SO much!

Funny story about Sister Rhee- when she first got to the mission home- she was obviously very sad. She had just returned from her father's funeral. Porter crawled right over to her and put his arms up. She picked him up and he just laid there with his head in her lap! He let her just talk to him and stroke his little head. Those of you who know Porter know that would NEVER happen- he can't sit still! But he did for Sister Rhee. Since he was born he has been our "Little Healer." He always knows when people are sad and has a way of comforting them. Anyway- the funny part... so I guess while he was laying his head on her lap he "tooted." Both Sister Rhee's cracked up laughing and said, "Boom Boom Porter" (which is their way of saying he farted). Well then I hear, "Oh Porter!!! Oh Porter!!!" Dustin and I hurried into the living room, and Porter had pooped all over my parents couch and Sister Rhee's arm!!! He still had BAD diarrhea from being sick- and it went everywhere!!!

I felt awful but Sister Rhee was laughing SO hard! It was pretty funny!!!

Christmas Eve Morning in his Jammies from Grandma Mindy
He was learning to crawl while we were there- look at that determined look!

Porter helping Gram cook by eating crackers...

Me & My big boy while Dad was cooking

Dad cutting the turkey, Elder Innis & Elder Randolph were supervising....

Christmas/Christmas Eve dinner!!! The turkey costs $80 US!!! How crazy is that? Apparently it is hard to find a Turkey in Korea so when my mom found it at Costco she didn't care how much it cost, she just bought it :)

Sister Rhee- I love her! She was so incredibly strong and so ready to get back and serve after he dad's passing. Her siblings went right back out to their missions as well- what an incredible family!!

Mom, Porter, Sister Rhee, and Sister Rhee Skyping with my siblings, nieces, and nephews on Christmas Eve (in Utah and Korea since we moved it). We got to watch them open all of their presents from Gram & Bop.

After all the missionaries headed back to their houses, we celebrated our Christmas Eve....

Porter playing with Gram and Bop...

Porter trying to get Bop's attention- he REALLY wanted to open presents.

Porter was SO excited to get his jammies- this is when he first opened them...

He threw them RIGHT up over his head saying, "TOUCHDOWN!!!" (Yes-we taught our son that Touchdown is the same thing as YAY!)
Seriously- look how excited he was!!!! (Little would you know he had already worn-and pooped on- those jammies multiple times. Thanks to his stomach bug...)

Once Porter opened his jammies he REALLY wanted to help Bop open his too!

Bop's Christmas Jammies!! That's what Dustin and I got our parents this year were their Christmas Jammies.... We saw this shirt MONTHS ago and as soon as Dustin saw it he said, "Oh we are getting this for your dad." We always joke that we Gilbert's are allergic to exercise... couldn't pass it up!

First Christmas as a Family of Three!!!
